Today we spent a long day at the crèche. We often have approximately
10 children there but today there were 30! First we sang a few songs with them as always, and repeated some colors. Then we noticed that it was a very hot day with a bright sun, the children went outside dancing and singing. Eva and I saw their sweaty heads so we thought, let's go and buy them some ice cream! Eva and I walked through the township to the supermarket and bought some ice cream for them. It's strange walking through the township because people look at you all the time, they're not used to having white people in their neighborhood. Still it didn't feel unsafe at all! People know that you are a volunteer because otherwise white people won't come into the township. That's what saddens me, it's still a aftereffecht of the Apartheid. A lot of white, South-African people will never go into Motherwell because they think it's not safe and they think that there are only bad people living there. Well, I can tell you, there are none as far as I'm concerned.
We bought two trays of ice cream and two boxes with cones. After handing all the children of the crèche an ice-cream cone we still had some left so Eva and I went up to the street to hand the spare one's out. Within 5 minutes we had a huge group of children around us!
It was nice seeing them that happy with such a siimple thing as an ice-cream cone!
We also played some dutch games with the children, like doing a chairdance but then with hoops. We also played Zakdoekje leggen and Anne-Maria-Koekkoek. They had so much fun and it was good to see how eager they are trying to understand the game.

In the evening priest Mozes and his wife came over for dinner, we had some good chats and let them search for some clothes in our collection ;)

Tomorrow we'll walk to one of poorest area's of Motherwell with Zimpiwe.

Greetings from South-Africa!
